Vernon Brackman
Vernon H. Brackman age 88 of Cassella, died peacefully on Saturday morning, March 8, 2025, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater.
He was born on July 29, 1936, in Osgood to the late William J. & Emily (Holthaus) Brackman. On July 18, 1959, in Trinity, IN, he married Ruth E. (Reinhart) Brackman. Vernon and Ruth were married for 61 years, until her passing on December 3, 2020.
Vernon is survived by children: Bruce & Brenda (Watercutter) Brackman of Ft. Loramie, Linda & Randy Bergman of Maria Stein, Alan & Kathy (Oldiges) Brackman of New Bremen, Brenda & Dr. Joe Karre of O'Fallon, MO, and Brian & Amy Brackman of Murfreesboro, TN, 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a dear friend Betty Tumbusch of North Star. Surviving siblings and in-laws include Norma & Don Purcell of Deland, FL, Paul & Val Brackman of Debary, FL, Janice & Delbert Dirksen of Frenchtown, and Joseph Reinhart of Trinity, IN.
In addition to his wife and parents, Vernon is preceded in death by siblings and in-laws: Pauline & Jim Barga, Eugene & Barb Brackman, Donald Brackman, Gerald & Ann Wagner, Victor & Pauline Reinhart, Rev. Robert Reinhart C.PP.S., Doris Reinhart, and his father and mother-in-law, Peter & Cecelia Reinhart.
Vernon was a member of The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Cassella, Ohio and of the Men's Sodality. He was also a member of the Catholic Financial Life, formerly the C K of A in Cassella, where he served as a past president. He was a member of the Sunnybrook Camping Club and was a lifetime member of the Operating Engineers. Vernon learned his skill and love of operating heavy equipment while serving in the Army constructing air runways in Europe.
He continued this trade working for ODOT and then Trojan Asphalt, later known as Barrett Paving, in Piqua. In retirement he continued operating for Randy Tumbusch Construction, Jutte Excavating, and others. Vernon took great pride in being recognized as the best blade operator around. In his free time his passions included his woodworking, traveling with Ruth, the Sunnybrook Camping group, and getting together for breakfast with Lloyd Frey and other friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM on Friday, March 14, 2025, at The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Cassella. Following the funeral mass, burial will take place in Nativity Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 PM on Thursday, March 13, and from 9 to 10 AM on Friday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, in St. Henry.
