A prolonged period without rainfall, winds gusting to 25-30 mph, relative humidity as low as 35%, and unseasonably warm temperatures have increased the threat of wildfires today. Grasses and leaf litter are very receptive to fire. If fire is introduced, ignition is likely and fire spread will be quick.
Be aware of the potential for grass and brush fires that may quickly spread today. Call 911 if you see unattended fire. Do not burn today.

James Blount
James Blount, age 90 of Rockford, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at the Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater. He was born the son of the late A. B. and Minta (Calhoun) Blount on July 24, 1934 in Leburn, KY. On July 27, 1956 he married Beverly Hawk, she still lives on the farm in Rockford. He is also survived by his children Angie Blount of Fairborn and Renee (Brent) Geary of Fairfax, VA, two grandchildren; Ryan Geary and Finn Geary and his sister Jane Ayers of Montezuma.
In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by his step-father Issac Smith, sister Jennie Lee (Jim) Sturgill, EllaV (Bill) McDonald, half sister Martha (Bob) Yenser, step sisters Zola Howard, Matilda (Bob) Johnson and two step brothers Jessie (Faye) Smith and David (Carolyn) Smith.
James graduated from Leburn High School with the Class of 1952. He proudly served in the Unite State Army from 1956 until 1961, In Germany as a member of the 82nd Airborne. He was formerly employed at the Rockford Elevator and worked for over twenty years with Mercer Landmark. Then he was employed at the Auglaize Farmers in St. Marys and retired as the manager of Swanders Farmers Elevator Company in Sidney.
He was a member of the Rockford American Legion Post # 508 and the Rockford Eagles Arie #1292.
The Blount family would like to thank EverHeart Hospice and the staff at the Mercer County Community Hospital for all of the loving care and assistance during this difficult time of James' life.
James wishes were to be cremated, the family will hold private family memorial service at a later date, in the Tomlinson Cemetery.
