OPSMA All-Northwest District Boys Basketball

Locals earn honors

Area boys basketball players received honors as the Northwest District board of the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association announced its district teams on Wednesday.
In Division VI, Marion Local's Austin Niekamp and Coldwater's Baylen Blockberger earned first team honors. Marion Local's Grant Kremer was named to the second team with Coldwater's Mason Welsch earning third team honors.
Honorable mention honors went to Parkway's Trevor Stearns and Ethan Pond, New Bremen's Gavin Quellhorst and Gavin Dicke, St. Henry's Austin Zimmerman and Jack Huelsman, Marion Local's Brayden Mescher.
Bryan Hieber of Patrick Henry was named Coach of the Year in Division VI with Player of the Year honors being shared by Colonel Crawford's Brayden Holt, Toledo Christian's Karter Koester and Ashland Crestview's Justice Thompson.
In Division VII, St. John's Cameron Elwer was named the Player of the Year. Elwer was joined on the first team by Minster's Kole Richard.
Minster's Cole Albers was selected to the second team while teammate Brogan Stephey earned honorable mention honors.
Celina's Kaiden Werntz was selected to the honorable mention in Division III. Shawnee's Beckett Bertke was named the Player of the Year in Division III. Coach of the Year honors were split between Lexington's Scott Hamilton, a Fort Loramie graduate, and Sylvania Southview's Dennis Springs.
In Division IV, Bath coach Dre White shared Coach of the Year honors with Otsego's Steve Carroll while Shelby's Brayden DeVito and Otsego's Kaidyn Hutton shared Player of the Year honors.
Castalia Margaretta and Liberty-Benton shared the top honors in Division V as Margaretta's Julian Washington and L-B's Jake Gerken shared Player of the Year honors while Margaretta's Steve Keller and L-B's Doug Whiteman was named Coaches of the Year.
Lima Senior's Shawn Foster was named Player of the Year in Division II with his coach Quincey Simpson earning Coach of the Year honors.

Division I honors went to Toledo Whitmer's Maki Leach (Player of the Year) and Perrysburg's Dave Boyce (Coach of the Year).
In the Southwest District, Fort Recovery's Briggs Overman was named to the honorable mention in Division VI.
