Celina's Campbelle Gass (91) tries to apply the tag to Minster's Reese Albers during Tuesday's game at Jim Hoess Field. Albers was safe on the play and scored both of Minster's runs in a 2-0 win over the Bulldogs.

CELINA -Colbie Kinney didn't give Minster much, but the Wildcats were able to push two runs across against Celina, then relied on veteran pitcher Brooklyn Osterloh to work out of jams for the Wildcats to pick up a 2-0 softball victory on Tuesday at Jim Hoess Field.

Minster bounces back from suffering its first loss last Friday to Lincolnview to go to 5-1. Celina, which opened the season on Saturday with a win, levels out at 1-1.

Kinney and Osterloh were prepared for a pitchers' duel, and neither disappointed. Kinney allowed just a walk through the first two innings as the Bulldogs played solid defense. Osterloh allowed a lead-off double to Campbelle Gass, then retired the next 11 batters in order, four via punchout.

Kinney got the first two outs in the third inning before Reese Albers blooped a single just over second base. Albers stole second, then took third. The throw to third was wild, allowing Albers to trot home for the first run of the game. Rylin Trego followed with a single, but Kinney struck out Addi Inskeep to end the threat.

"We were hitting it right on the nose at people," said Minster coach Kenleigh Ludlow. "Sometimes that's the way things go."

Brooklyn Osterloh struck out 11 to help Minster defeat Celina to move to 5-1 on the season.

Osterloh's hot streak stopped in the fourth when Lily Gonzalez hit a two-out double. Osterloh then hit Paiton Rhodes with a pitch to put two on for Avery Stachler, who worked the count to 3-2 before grounding to Lauren Tyler, who stepped on third base for the force out to end the inning.

Kinney retired the Minster side in order in the fourth and fifth. In the sixth, Albers worked the count full before drawing a walk. Trego bunted back to the pitcher, but Albers rounded second and took third on the sacrifice. Inskeep then lined a shot off Kinney's leg and into foul territory for the RBI single scoring Albers. Kinney was able to walk off under her own power as Gonzalez moved in from first base to get the final two outs of the inning. Gonzalez then retired the side in the seventh.

"Really, it was some great heads-up baserunning by Reese when she got on," said Ludlow "She made something happen on the bases."

Celina had its best chance to dent the scoreboard in the sixth. Gass reached first base when the throw from shortstop was hit. Maddie Allen followed with a bunt, but a dropped ball to complete the out put runners on first and second. Osterloh struck out Isabelle Thobe, who was hitting for Kinney, before Gonzalez laced a single to center to load the bases with one out. Osterloh bowed her back and struck out Rhodes and Stachler to get out of the jam.

"We just needed that one hit," said Celina coach Renee Williams. "We just didn't get it."

Minster's Ansley Wolf applies the tag to Celina's Alexis Siefring during Tuesday's softball game at Jim Hoess Field.

In the seventh, Osterloh enticed a grounder to third from Hayley Germann before Alexis Siefring singled down the first base line. Brooke Faber stepped in and worked the count to 2-2 before lining a shot to Osterloh, who snagged the ball and threw over to Ansley Wolf to compete the 1-3 double play to end the game.

Osterloh finished her night with 11 strikeouts, getting three punchouts in the first, fifth and sixth innings.

"Brooklyn was on it tonight," said Ludlow. "Just working through (trouble) and being a senior and wanting to be in that position to take control in those situations, you couldn't ask for anything better. I'm proud how we worked through (trouble).

"They're a great team," said Williams of Minster. "They're offensively solid and defensively solid with great pitching. We battled with them. They just edged it out a little more than we did."

Gonzalez had two of the four Celina hits on the night.
