A group of construction students at Tri Star Career Compact got an unusual opportunity for hands-on training last week when they helped install a concrete slab at the facility. The school's junior construction students, under teacher Brett McGillvary, poured over 30 yards of concrete April 1 at the facility's "bullpen," a lot where cars for the Tri Star automotive program are stored. "The students were able to get real-life experience in pouring concrete that they normally would not get," said Tri Star Director Tim Buschur. Stachler Concrete donated the use of a pumper truck - which allowed students an up-close look at the operations of a key piece of construction equipment - while St Henry Tile Co. donated the concrete.
