Charles Schmiesing
Charlie Schmiesing, age 59, of Columbus Grove, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025. Born on September 24, 1965 in Coldwater, Ohio to the late John and Alice (Enneking) Schmiesing, he was the eighth of twelve children. Charlie grew up in Minster, OH and resided in Columbus Grove, OH. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed.
A graduate of Minster High School, Charlie went on to earn an associate's degree in Computer Programming & Analysis from Northwestern Business College-Technical Center and a bachelor's degree in Computer Programming from Tiffin University. He dedicated his career to the Management Council of Ohio Education Computer Network (MCOECN), formerly INFOhio and NOACSC, where he worked as a programmer and Technical Services Manager.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Schmiesing whom he married on August 8, 1986. He is also survived by his children: Tyler Schmiesing (Tara), Alicia Weinandy (James), and Nick Schmiesing (Megan Langhals); his treasured granddaughters: Naomi, Fallon, and Kaylie; and his loyal dog Gravy. He is also survived by siblings Sam (Jane) Schmiesing, Sue McDaniel, Phil (Robin) Schmiesing, Ken (Kathy) Schmiesing, Mary (Mark) Bornhorst, Dorothy (Steve) Bruns, Therese (Rod) Smith, Bonnie Trzaska, John (Jamie) Schmiesing, Gary (Courtney) Silver, and Martha (Steve) Bohman; mother-in-law Marilyn Lenhart and sister-in-law Becky Barden; as well as 46 nieces & nephews.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents John and Alice Schmiesing, grandchild Morgan Findley Schmiesing, father-in-law Robert Lenhart, and brothers-in-law Charlie Barden and Steve Trzaska.
Charlie was a devoted member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Columbus Grove, actively involved in church organizations and committed to his faith. He was also a generous volunteer at the Lima Civic Center, always willing to give his time to support his community.
Family was at the center of Charlie's life. He cherished time spent with his loved ones, especially entertaining his granddaughters, who brought him immeasurable joy.
Prior to being diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer, Charlie was a 30-year survivor of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and spent many years participating in the Relay For Life to raise awareness and resources for cancer research. He received a kidney transplant almost 25 years ago from his sister Bonnie and enjoyed celebrating multiple "birthdays" every year as a reminder of the life saving treatment he received.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10 am Thursday, April10, 2025 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Columbus Grove with Father Jason Kahle officiating. Burial to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2 to 8 pm Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Hartman-Rousculp Community Funeral Home, 10879 SR OH-12 Columbus Grove. The family asks those who are willing to wear bright colored shoes to Visitation and the Funeral Mass to honor Charlie's tradition of wearing bright shoes to weddings and celebrations.
