David Sheets
David L. "Dave" Sheets, Jr., 79, of Mendon, Ohio entered into eternal rest Monday April 7, 2025 at home, with his loving wife by his side. He was born November 13, 1945 in Celina, Ohio and was the son of the late David L. Sheets, Sr. and Bernice (Kendall) Sheets.
Dave lived his entire life in Mendon. On January 20, 1968 he married his wife of 57 years, B. Diane (Mihm) Sheets, who survives in Mendon.
In addition to being a farmer, Dave also was the owner operator of Sheets Bulldozing for over 50 years until retirement. For some of that time, he even was fortunate to be able to work alongside his father, who helped Dave with the day to day operations of the business. He dug out a lot of fence rows, tore down old houses and barns, and dug ponds. Dave loved running his bulldozer and excavator.
Dave was an avid dog lover. He always had dogs during his entire married life. Any stray dog that appeared at Dave's house quickly found a home there.
He also loved collecting and restoring tractors, as well as going to local tractor shows. Dave and his son "Davy" made a lot of wonderful memories working together on tractor restoration projects. His favorites were Minneapolis Moline tractors. Dave was an avid reader of the M & M Corresponder, and the Prairie Gold Rush, the Minneapolis Moline Club magazines. But Dave's favorite activity was spending time with famiily, especially his grandsons.
In addition to his wife, Diane, Dave is survived by his son, David Lee "Davy" (Erica) Sheets of Mendon; two grandsons, Tyler Sheets and Jayden Sheets of Mendon; one brother, Veryl (Marilyn) Sheets of Mendon; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elaine (Jim) Geyer of Rockford.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife's parents, Ernest and Betty (Jordan) Mihm.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until 10:45 am Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Ketcham Ripley Funeral Home, 111 West First Street, Rockford, Ohio 45882. A graveside service will follow, 11:00 am Thursday April 10, 2025 at Riverside Cemetery, 3750 US-33, Rockford, Ohio 45882. Pastor Bill Halter will officiate.
