Jan Schlickman
Jan E. Schlickman, 87, of Willshire, OH, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Jan was born at home in French Township, Adams County, IN, on April 25, 1937, the son of the late Jesse E. and Margaret E. (Straub) Schlickman. On August 7, 1959, Jan married Bonita L. Dietrich.
He was a 1955 graduate of Willshire High School. He enlisted in the Air Guard and was called up to active duty with the U.S. Air Force, where he served during the Berlin Crisis. Jan worked for Navistar for 30 years and retired in 1989.
Jan enjoyed the outdoors and the woods and he was a man that found comfort in routine. He also liked tractor pulling, train watching, classic cars, westerns, and NASCAR. Above all he loved his family and he was generous with his time, helping people with his handyman skills through the years around the village.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bonnie Schlickman of Willshire, OH; 3 children, Kimberly (Brad) Carr of Willshire, OH, Tina (Mark) Heitkamp of Rockford, OH and Bryan (Heather) Schlickman of Willshire, OH; son-in-law, Kevin Fuhrman of Decatur, IN; 2 siblings, Sondra Samples of Rockford, OH and Bill Schlickman of Ft. Wayne, IN; 11grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and 1 on-the-way.
Jan was preceded in death by 2 children, Jeffrey Schilckman and Stacy Fuhrman; a grandchild, Paul Carr; and a sister, Dixie Barton. And brother-in-law, Richard Samples.
Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Good Friday, April 18, 2025, at Haggard-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.
A Private Funeral Service will also be held at the funeral home. Pastor Hayden Folks will be officiating and burial will follow in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Schumm. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Adams Post 43 Color Guard.
Memorials may be made to the Willshire Park or Wren EMS.
