Charles Brockert
Charles M. Brockert, age 90, of New Bremen, died on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 12:44 P.M. at the Joint Twp. Dist. Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. He was born on January 8, 1935 in Wapakoneta, the son of the late Matthew J. and Elizabeth M. (Mestemaker) Brockert. On September 12, 1959, he married Janice A. Scheblo, and they shared 47 years together until her death on May 19, 2007.
Charlie is survived by his daughters: Becky (Dennis) Schmiesing of Sunset, SC, Pam (Chris) Houseworth of New Bremen, and Jenny (John) Wendel of New Bremen; his ten grandchildren, and his numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory is his sister Susan Fischer-Ligget of Wapakoneta and his in-laws: William Scheblo, Joyce Brockert, and Ruth Scheblo. Along with his parents and wife, Charlie was preceded in death by an infant daughter Christine Brockert, and his siblings: Joan Seitz, Marjorie Steinke, Arthur, Robert, James and Mark Brockert.
Charlie had attended St. Joseph High School in Wapakoneta, and he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as an inspector and foreman at the former STAMCO in New Bremen, and later at Minster Machine. He also worked for Globus Printing, where he was a jack of all trades. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer where he served as an usher and always helped with the mission breakfasts. Charlie was a very bright man, who was known as 'Encyclopedia Charlie' because he knew so much about any subject, and anyone that knew him, knew that he was the ultimate heckler and jokester. In his younger years, he enjoyed woodworking, playing solitaire, and ballroom dancing with Janice. He was also well known for his rose and flower garden, and was a regular at Bolly's for many years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen.
