Raymond McCollister
Raymond G. McCollister, 74, of St. Marys, OH passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus at 11:15 a.m. Monday June 23, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family, following a 4-year battle with cancer.
He was ready to once again climb some trees and go fishing. He was greeted by his parents Floyd and Martha McCollister and his son, Randy who all preceded him in death.
Ray was born on December 12th, 1950, in Nelsonville, Ohio, to Floyd Emerson and Martha Ellen (Wycuff) McCollister.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary McCollister. His children Stacey (Alex) Varian and Shawn (Valerie) McCollister. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren who will deeply miss him and all their adventures with him.
He also leaves behind his beloved companion, his shih tzu, Butter. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a proud retiree of the City of St. Marys Electric Department where he worked for 30 years. In addition, he was the owner of McCollister's Tree Service, where he served St. Marys and the surrounding communities for 45 years.
Affectionately known as "the hillbilly", Ray will be remembered as a man who had many friends, seldom met a stranger, worked hard to provide for his family, and believed in the importance of keeping a promise and that you should always stay true to your word.
Rites are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday June 27, 2025 at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
In respect for the manner in which he lived (Ray did not like wearing a suit and tie!), all attendees are encouraged to dress casually.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cancer Association of Auglaize Co.
Condolences may be expressed and memories shared with Ray's family via: www.millerfuneralhomes.net or the Miller Funeral Homes Facebook Page.
