Janice Homan
Janice Marie Homan, 73, of St. Marys, OH passed away on Thursday November 27, 2025 at her residence after fighting pancreatic cancer.
She was born March 4, 1952 in Celina, OH to the late Edward and Hilda (Muhlenkamp) Heitkamp. On April 12, 1975 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, she married Howard Lee Homan, who survives.
She is also survived by daughter Lisa (Mark) Permelia of Miamisburg, daughter Joyce Dentinger of Montgomery, daughter Janelle (James) Holtzapple of St. Marys, daughter Marian (Jimmy) Dickinson of Montgomery, son Lee (Janelle) Homan of St. Marys, son Mark (Laura) Homan of St. Marys, and son Darren (Brittany) Homan of St. Marys, grandchildren Emily, Anthony, and Michael Permelia; Wesley, Haley, and Timothy Dentinger; Quinn, Vincent, and Reagan Holtzapple; Joshua, Samantha, and Jacob Dickinson; Ezekiel, Max, Evelyn, and Vance Homan; Cole, Miles, and Della Homan; Bentley and Paisley Homan, sister Dorothy Chaney of Ft. Loramie, sister Eileen Litmer of St. Joe, brother Willie (Barb) Heitkamp of St. Henry, brother Elmer Heitkamp of St. Anthony, sister Ruth Sutter of St. Henry, brother John (Millie) Heitkamp of Tipp City, brother Ken Heitkamp of North Carolina, brother Ron (Donna) Heitkamp of Coldwater, brother Dan (Mary) Heitkamp of Coldwater, brother-in-law Don Dahlinghaus of Celina, brother-in-law Lester Homan of Dayton, sister-in-law Marcia Homan of Anna, brother-in-law Marvin Homan of New Bremen, sister-in-law Sharon (Dennis) Ontrop of Ft. Recovery, brother-in-law Orval (Helen) Homan of Minster, sister-in-law Carol (Steve) Wirick of Vandalia, brother-in-law Eugene (Mary Jane) Homan of New Bremen, brother-in-law Steve (Therese) Homan of Celina, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by infant grandson Andrew Dickinson; son-in-law Daniel Dentinger; brother Melvin (Evelyn) Heitkamp; brother Paul (Stella) Heitkamp; sister-in-law Julie Heitkamp; brother-in-law Tom Litmer; sister-in-law Marita Dahlinghaus; brother-in-law Lavern Homan; sister-in-law Elizabeth Homan; sister-in-law Carolyn Homan.
Janice, also known as Jen, Jan, or Jenny, graduated from Coldwater High School in 1970. From there she pursued a bachelor's degree in special education from Bowling Green State University. After teaching for a couple of years, she then focused on raising her family while also assisting on the family farm.
Later, she worked at the St. Marys Community Library for over 20 years where she enjoyed working with her co-workers, assisting patrons, and had a gift for mending books. Janice was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She also enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, cooking, baking, and crocheting. Above all this, though, her favorite way to spend her time later in life was with her grandkids.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 5, 2025 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 511 E. Spring Street in St. Marys. Burial will follow at the Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation will be held from 2 - 8 p.m. on Thursday December 4, 2025 at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703) in St. Marys and from 9:30 -10:30 am Friday December 5, 2025 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
