Celina's Colin Buening, seated center, will attend Bowling Green State Univeristy and run collegiately for the Falcons.

CELINA - After putting together a strong career in green and white, Colin Buening will now sport orange and brown.

The Celina distance running specialist will attend Bowling Green State University next fall, joining the Falcons' cross country team as well as the men's club track and field team.

"I was looking at multiple schools. I ran there a couple of times,"said Buening. "I really like the team and the coaching. It was the best fit. I didn't want to go to a big city."

Buening's interest in majoring in electrical engineering played a big part in making his final decision.

"They built a new engineering building. That will be nice," said Buening.

The Falcons are looking to build up their program after finishing 10th at the Mid-American Conference meet this past season and 30th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.

During his career at Celina, Buening was a four-time first team All-WBL finisher in cross country, finishing 10th as a freshman before taking fourth as a sophomore, third as a junior and then winning this season, breaking the school record with a time of 15:48.2 as he helped Celina win its first league team title since 2007.

Buening ran at the state meet four times, twice as part of the team. Buening finished 120th as a freshman before placing 34th, 44th and 33rd his final three seasons.

In track, Buening has been the key runner in the distance events, finishing second in the 3,200-meter run and fourth in the 1,600 this past season at Defiance.

"What I've learned (at Celina) is to stay consistent," said Buening. "Do what you need to do everyday. That's the big thing."
