Arrest made in fatal hit and run

From staff reports
A female pedestrian died Sunday night on a roadway south of Yorkshire, after she was reportedly hit by a pickup truck that then fled the scene, a news release from the Darke County Sheriff's Office states.
Darke County Deputies responded at around 9 p.m. Sunday to the 13700 block of Yorkshire Osgood Road on a report of a subject lying in the roadway, per the release.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Jacob Giere, 34, of Maria Stein, was traveling northbound on Yorkshire Osgood Road when he reportedly struck an adult female who was in the roadway, according to the release. Giere purportedly did not stop and left the scene following the collision.
The female victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Deputies later made contact with Giere, who was taken into custody on one count of leaving the scene of a crash on a public roadway, a third-degree felony. He's being held at the Darke County Jail without bond. Additional charges are possible pending a formal indictment.
