George Hanna
George E. Hanna, age 94, of Celina, passed away peacefully at 5:40 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at his home in Celina. He was born March 15, 1931, in Celina to the late Garnet and Daisy (Norris) Hanna. On November 15, 2007, he married Linda (Cooke Hegemann) Hanna, who survives in Celina.
George is also survived by his children and grandchildren: Tammy (Rex) Spence of Celina and their children, Kyle and Aaron; Heath (Julie) Hegemann of Minster and their children, Austin and Wesley; Hope (Joe) Rethman of Maria Stein and their children, Mitch, Matt, Molly, and Marcus; and Holly (Rod) Frericks of Minster and their children, Cody and Dustin. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, with one more expected soon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mattie (Martin) Hanna, and his siblings, Carl Hanna, Vernis Hanna, Clifford Hanna, Dale Hanna, Dorothy West, Virginia McGee, and Mary Meeds.
George was a 1949 graduate of Celina High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War era. He retired from Case Leasing in Celina after many years of service as a semi mechanic. Earlier in his career, he co-owned Lakefield Airport in Montezuma and also managed the airport in Van Wert.
George was a gifted pilot and a talented mechanic, skilled in working on automobiles, semi-trucks, and airplanes. Working as a mechanic was not only his profession but also his favorite hobby, and he continued doing what he loved until retiring at the age of 75.
He was a very active member of New Life Christian Center in Celina. George loved his family deeply and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina, with Pastor Jason King officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Swamp College Cemetery in Celina, with military honors provided by Celina VFW Post #5713 and Celina American Legion Post #210.
