David Halterman
David Gene Halterman, age 89, of Portland, Indiana, passed away at IU Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana, on Sunday, April 19, 2026.
He was born in Hillsdale, Michigan, on December 30, 1936, to John and Ethel (Robinson) Halterman.
Dave was a 1955 graduate of Decatur High School in Indiana and attended the University of Cincinnati. He served in the United States Army. Dave lived in Cincinnati for 17 years before moving to Coldwater, Ohio to open the Ben Franklin Store. Dave later retired to the state of Florida, where he worked for 13 years for TSA.
He is survived by his wife Portia (Dilworth) Halterman of 46 years. Their daughters, Lori Thompson of Cincinnati, Ginger and Bobby Timme of Maineville, Ohio, and Krista and Brian Leece of Richmond, Kentucky.
Their "grands" Nicholl Poplaski, Cincinnati, Jesse and Marshall Deane of Richmond, Virginia, and Olivia and Cody Meade of Richmond, Kentucky.
And "greats" Irby and Clay Deane of Richmond, Virginia, and Colsen Meade, Richmond, Kentucky.
Dave's sister Julie Olden resides in Hamilton, Ohio. His brother and business partner Scott Halterman is deceased, as well as brother Christopher Halterman and 2 infant brothers.
His sister-in-law Pat Halterman resides in Coldwater. His brother-in-law Kirk Dilworth resides in Ft. Recovery. There are numerous nephews and nieces.
A celebration of Dave's life will be held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. Burial will follow in Green Park Cemetery in Portland, Indiana.
Guests may visit with Dave's family on Thursday from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM at the funeral home.
