COLDWATER - Tuesday's weather made it a busy Thursday for the Mercer County Knights of Columbus track meet. Despite the delay, Coldwater hung on to win the boys meet by just two points, while Celina got strong results across the board to win the girls side.

The Cavs boys finished on 111 points, while Marion Local was close behind at 109. Celina's 166 points bested Coldwater's 142 on the girls side.

Zaden Rolfes got Celina's boys team off to a strong start with his victory on the pole vault, while Marion Local's Derek Grieshop's 49 feet, 11 3/4 inch effort was enough to take the shot put crown. On the girls side, Paige Ontrop got Coldwater its first points with her shot put win while Ava Schmitmeyer's 12 foot pole vault attempt gave the Cavs another win in the field.

Coldwater's Paige Ontrop swept the throwing events at the Mercer County Knights of Columbus meet.

Celina's Kirsten Garrity flew away from the competition in the high jump, as the sophomore finished with an even 5 feet. On the boys side, it was Coldwater freshman Johan Gruss' 6-foot, 2-inch effort that won the event by just 2 inches.

In the long jump pit, it was Celina's Brenna Korte who launched a 17-feet, 1 inch effort to win the girls event, while Coldwater's Johny Pohlman held on to win the boys side with a mark of 22-4 1/2. Ontrop continued to help the hosts in the field with a 123-foot, 8-inch throw in discus, while Marion's Brennen Hess' 142-9 won the boys side.

With the field events wrapping up and Cavalier Stadium filling in, all eyes moved to the track. Coldwater kept up its early momentum on the girls 4x800-meter relay win with Lana Kaiser, Channing Lefeld, Ava Lefeld and Audrey Alig taking top spot. The boys 4x800 relay was won by Marion's team of Dalton Pohlmann, Ryan Stucke, Isaac Bruns and Trey Goettemoeller.

Celina's Alison Hemmelgarn leads St. Henry's Karlee Buschur, left, and Parkway's Naomi Knapke in a heat of the 100-meter hurdles.

The first meet record was broken in the girls 100 hurdles, as Celina freshman Alison Hemmelgarn's 14.84 bested Grace Moeller's 14.95 from last year. Coldwater's Aidan Rose won the 110 hurdles ahead of Isaac Roessner from Fort Recovery.

Claire Bertke gave the home fans another reason to celebrate as the Coldwater sophomore won the girls 100 dash. On the boys side, familiar face Cole Kaiser of St. Henry was a touch under 11 seconds at 10.94 to take the crown.

In the girls 4x200 relay, St. Henry team of Evelyn Gast, Karlee Baumer, Rylie Buschur and Karlee Buschur took the top spot by two-hundredths of a second over Celina. The Redskins kept the momentum up as Owen Lefeld, Zach Heath, Will Gerlach and Cole Kaiser won the boys side.

Elle Miesse got the Bulldogs another win in the girls 1,600 with her 5:18.37 mark. Caleb Lehman bested Celina teammate Kaleb Dameron by one second in the boys race. The track success continued for Celina in the girls 4x100 relay as the team of Maddie Rammel, Kirsten Garrity, Brenna Korte and Rachel Rammel took the top spot.

In the boys 4x100 it was Marion's group of Cole Nagel, Mason Jones, Troy Moeller and Owen Kemper that finished ahead of the pack. Rylie Buschur of St. Henry was the best of the bunch in the girls 400 meter race, while Zach Heath's 50.19 second mark gave the Redskins a sweep in the event.

Hemmelgarn gave Celina more points with her victory in the girls 300 meter hurdles. Aiden Rose's 39.12 not only won the boys side for Coldwater, but it set a meet record.

Alig won the 800 for Coldwater, while Fort Recovery got on the board when Reese Diller topped the boys 800. Bertke kept the Coldwater fans happy with her 26.55 to win the girls 200 meter dash. The boys 200 was another win for Cole Kaiser, and his mark of 22.26 set a meet record.

That paved the way for the 3,200 race. Jennalee Dameron of Celina was the winner, and the senior clocked in a 11:56.04 to get the win. Colin Buening made it a great event for the Bulldogs on the boys side as he cruised to a meet record time of 9:33.47.

With that the final event of the night, the 4x400 relay, was set for action. While the Celina girls team had already done enough to secure the team title, the boys side created some late-night drama.

Marion needed a win to tie Coldwater (who did not send a team to the relay) for first place. But the power of Cole Kaiser was too much, as the Redskins' second-leg runner put plenty of distance between St. Henry and Marion. St. Henry got a strong start from Owen Lefeld, while Will Gerlach kept the momentum going in the third leg. A strong finish from Zach Heath got the job done. The girls side saw Coldwater give the home fans one last reason to cheer as the group of Lana Kaiser, Ava Lefeld, Claire Bertke and Audrey Alig rallied to take top spot in the event.

St. Henry finished third in the boys with 105 points, with Celina (95), Fort Recovery (77) and Parkway (26) rounding out the team scores. While Celina and Coldwater ran away with the 1-2 spots in the girls event, St. Henry finished third with 78 points. Marion (66), Parkway (45) and Fort Recovery (22) were in the remaining spots.
