Coldwater residents browsed through pieces of the village's past Monday at the Coldwater Public Library. Items buried in a time capsule during the country's bicentennial celebration in 1976 were on display from 12-7 p.m. for an open house. Among the mementos preserved were photographs, restaurant menus, stamps, coins, cookbooks and other artifacts that provide a snapshot of the community as it was 50 years ago. Coldwater America250 committee member Phil Washington said the capsule contents tell the "story of a wonderful community. They were doing the things that they're doing now in 1976 - putting family, community, faith at the forefront of what Coldwater is." The contents will be on display through Friday in the meeting room of the library. A condensed number of items will remain on display until the Coldwater Community Picnic.
