Alphie Sowders
Alphie Sowders, age 85, of Kings Mills, Ohio, formerly of Celina, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Hospice of Cincinnati Blue Ash Inpatient Care Center.
She was born on November 20, 1940, in Clairfield, Tennessee, to the late Ancil and Minnie (King) Hamblin. On August 6, 1956, she married Hershel L. Sowders, who preceded her in death on February 13, 2007.
Alphie is survived by her two loving daughters, Kimberly Shouse of Celina and Jane (Jim) Sweigart of Kings Mills; three grandchildren, Jarrod Sutter of Celina, Jena (Jonathan) Berger of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Jude Sweigart of Kings Mills; three great-grandchildren, Olivia and Kevin Sutter, and Charlotte Berger; and three siblings, Irene (JL) Hatfield of Tennessee, Edna Taylor of Georgia, and AJ (Karla) Hamblin of Celina.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Sowders; son-in-law, David Shouse; and siblings, Loretta Sweet, WC Hamblin, Manuel Hamblin, Dewey Hamblin, Diane Hamblin, and Clydia Lasley.
Alphie retired after many years of dedicated service at CAPT in Celina. She was a faithful member of Calvary Chapel Faith Fellowship in Liberty Township, Ohio. Alphie enjoyed watching college and professional football, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Mercer Memory Gardens in Celina, with her son-in-law, Pastor Jim Sweigart, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Mercer County, 218 S. Main St., Celina, Ohio 45822.
