Dorothy Wilkens
Dorothy M. Wilkens, 96, of Saint Marys, died 3:10 P.M. Monday, August 31, 2026, at Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community, where she had resided for the past 10 years.
She was born January 18, 1930, in Saint Marys, the daughter of Elroy and Onis (Craft) McDermitt. She married Donald Wiehe on August 21, 1950, and he preceded her in death on May 28, 1961. She married Kenneth Wilkens on November 18, 1967, and he preceded her in death on March 13, 2008.
She is survived by her children: Kimberly Wiehe-Kaylor of Saint Marys; Kevin (Janet) Wilkens of Woodbridge, Virginia.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Amber Kaylor Jones; Addison Kaylor; Alivia Kaylor; Jackie Wilkins Evans; Kenny Wilkins; by her three great-grandchildren: Anneliese; Emmy and Jackson Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands and by her siblings: Robert McDermitt; Guy McDermitt; Margaret Wehnes; Evelyn Wheeler; Ruth Howell and Betty Rumpff; Norman McDermitt; Freedus McDermitt.
Dorothy was a 1948 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. She worked for many years as a telephone operator, and she was a very active volunteer with the Girl Scouts and as a Gray Lady at the Valley Nursing Home. She also was an election poll worker and taught Sunday School for 35 years at her church, Saint Paul's United Church of Christ in New Bremen.
She was active in the Ladies' Capsule at church and was a big Cincinnati Reds fan. She loved the Saint Marys Roughriders football team, and was a season ticket holder for 60 years.
Funeral rites will be held 12:00 N noon on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, the Reverend Barry Bordenkircher, officiant. Burial will follow at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until noon on Saturday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to either Marys. Dorothy's family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Grand Lake Hospice and to the Assisted Living Staff at Otterbein Saint Marys.
