Christopher L. "Chris 'Grizzly'" Sweeney, age 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 2:18 p.m. at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

He was born on March 8, 1951, in Celina, Ohio, to John Sweeney Sr. and Mable (Hooper) Sweeney.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Gloria (Dunlap) Sweeney, whom he married on July 5, 1986. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles "Pete" Sweeney, Larry Sweeney, Robert Sweeney, and Jimmy Sweeney.

Chris retired from McDonald's in St. Marys, Ohio, and also enjoyed mowing yards. He attended The Anchor Church in Celina. Chris enjoyed playing euchre, riding his scooter, and following all types of sporting events. He also enjoyed watching shows such as 48 Hours, Dateline, and 20/20.

Known affectionately by many as "Grizzly," Chris was a very kind and caring person who was always willing to help anyone at any given time. He had a big heart and never let his disability slow him down. He was especially proud of his independence and his ability to do things on his own.

He is survived by his daughters, Nikki Sweeney and Joy Sweeney, both of Celina; his brother, John (Lynn) Sweeney of Celina; his grandchildren, Layla Elokda, Mathew Griswold, Waylan Griswold, and Aaron Kinstle; and two great-grandchildren.

A gathering of friends and family will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Simon Young officiating. Inurnment will follow the services at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, Ohio.
