COLDWATER - Coldwater councilors at Monday night's regular meeting heard a progress report on the ongoing street work in the village.
Village administrator Jason Eyink reported PAB Construction Co. began work on the North Cedar Street waterline replacement project and village crews have been busy the last few weeks with the project.
Once the pipe was in, sewer and street department crews assisted the water department with the water service lines and tied into North Street and Main Street.
Eyink said sidewalks and curbs in the area were repaired, with a few more still to do. The waterline trench was paved last Friday, and the section of Cedar Street that is gravel due to the concrete removal should be graded this week with paving done next week.
"Hopefully by the end of next week that's pretty well wrapped up," Eyink said.
Eyink added that Ohio Department of Transportation crews finished the striping on Second Street, which is part of the repaving of State Route 118 from State Route 29 to Siegrist Jutte Road that has been ongoing throughout the summer.
In old business, the council passed on third reading an ordinance accepting the re-plat of part of Out Lot 13 and all of Out Lot 14 in the village of Coldwater. The purpose is to adjust the east-west lot dimensions to create more uniform lot widths and to facilitate future development of the property. The lots are located on East Main Street, next to the NKTelco building.
Huber Homes Development LLC, wants to put a duplex on each lot. The request was brought to the zoning board last November and approved. The change was also approved by the planning commission.
The council met in executive session for 11 minutes to discuss personnel. No action was taken afterward.
Also on Monday, the village council observed a moment of silence and extended condolences to the family of Bob Miller who died Sept. 1.
Councilor Brad Niekamp read the invocation, describing Miller as having a generous spirit, a sharp mind and a patient heart.
"Day after day he poured out his energy not just to instruct, but to inspire, to nurture and believe in the potential of every student who crossed his threshold," Niekamp stated.
Eyink said Miller started working at Coldwater Memorial Park in 1966.
"So for 40 plus years he managed the pool and I know he organized the Little League stuff out there, and obviously he was a teacher at school," he stated, adding, "He was just a great guy."
Council President Tim Buschur said Miller made an impact on the students he taught.
"We need more people like him," he commented.
Miller taught at Coldwater Exempted Village Schools for 33 years, retiring in 1999. He then served the district for nearly 25 more years as a substitute teacher.

• Halloween Parade sponsored by the Coldwater VFW is at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 25.
The Coldwater Village Council meets next at 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at the village hall.
