John J. Clay,
78, 205 Jon St., Mendon, died at 10:45 a.m. Feb. 27, 2003, at Colonial
Nursing Center, Rockford.
He was born
Sept. 29, 1924, in Mercer County, to John Simon and Beatrice Agler Clay.
On Dec. 13, 1947, he married Mary Lou Williams who survives.
Also surviving
are two sons, Dennis (Janice) and Barry (Vicki) of Mendon; a brother, Paul
(Faye) of St. Marys; a sister, Mildred (Blaine) Drake, Convoy; and six
grandchildren.
Deceased are
three brothers, Truman, Wilmer and Robert, and a sister, Freda.
He retired
from Siferd-Hossellman Company, St. Marys, and also worked at the former
Jasperson Supply Company, St. Marys. A 1944 graduate of Mendon-Union High
School, he was a former member and past president of the Mendon-Union school
board, a past member of the Mendon Fire Department and Mendon Lions Club
and a former Mendon Village Council member.
Services are
1:30 p.m. Sunday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Mendon, the Rev.
Paul Bunnell officiating. Burial will follow at Mendon Cemetery.

Thomas
Link
Former Celina
resident Thomas ìTomî Link, 56, Phoenix, Ariz., died Feb. 25, 2003, in
the emergency room at Mesa General Hospital, Mesa, Ariz. Death was due
to a massive heart attack.
He was born
Nov. 14, 1946, in St. Marys, to Leonard and Esther Homan Link. His mother
survives in Celina. On April 19, 1969, he married former St. Sebastian
resident Judy Homan who survives.
Also surviving
are four brothers, Jerry (June) and Dave (Ann) of Celina, Len of
Anaheim, Calif., and John (Patrice) of Tipp City.
He had been
self-employed in Custom Link, a custom cabinetry business in Phoenix.
Following retirement four years ago, he and his wife traveled throughout
the United States, Canada and Mexico in their motorhome.
He was a 1965
graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, Celina and a member of the
1964 I.C. State Championship Basketball Team.
A memorial
Mass is 10 a.m. March 8 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina,
the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating.
In keeping
with his wishes, he became an organ donor.

Dippold, 89, 1938 Cassella-Montezuma Road, Maria Stein, died at 11:15 p.m.
Feb. 25, 2003, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born
July 21, 1913, in St. Henry, to Leo and Theresia Kothman Hemmelgarn. On
June 15, 1938, she married Albert Dippold who died Sept. 20, 1987.
Surviving
are a son, Kenneth (Victoria) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two brothers, Andy
Hemmelgarn, St. Henry, and Leroy (Mildred) Hemmelgarn, Celina; three sisters,
Clara Grube and Teresa (Albert) Steinbrunner, Fort Recovery, and Wilma
(Cy) Everman, Maria Stein; and two grandchildren.
One sister,
Leona Hartings, is deceased.
A homemaker,
she formerly owned and operated the Cassella Store. She was a member of
Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church and the Mothersí Sodality,
Cassella, and the Daughters of Isabella, St. Henry.

Donovan, 55, 13819 Cornflower Court, Wellington, Fla., died Feb. 21, 2003,
in a Florida hospital following an extended illness.
She was born
Aug. 23, 1947, in Newark, to John and Peggy Rank Kelley. On March 17, 1978,
she married William Donovan of St. Marys who survives.
Also surviving
are a son, Daniel, and a daughter, Rachel, both at home.
Valedictorian
of the Newark Senior High School Class of 1965, she received a bachelor
of science degree in Romance Languages from Muskingum College and a masterís
degree from Ohio State University. She was a French teacher prior to becoming
administrative assistant in the Mershom National Security Program at OSU.
She later worked as a statistical analyst in energy in the Palm Beach County
School Board in Florida, and as the boardís computer systems analyst and
software engineer.
Services are
3 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Charles Richtmyer
officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.

2003, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born
June 15, 1921, in St. Marys, to Edgar and Anna Mae (Armacost) Goodwin.
On Aug. 1, 1942, he married Hazel Ritchie who survives.
Also surviving
are a son, Jerry (Mary) of Elida; a daughter, Kelli Laux, St. Marys; eight
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are
an infant son, Forrest Jr.; a brother, Pete; three sisters, including Hildred
and Mildred Goodwin and Edna Ralston.
He retired
from St. Marys Foundry after 45 years of service. He was a member of the
First Church of God and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767, St. Marys.

Land, 70, of New Castle, Ind., died Feb. 25, 2003, at his residence following
a sudden illness.
He was born
Sept. 14, 1932, in Cadiz, Ind., to Walter and Faye (Murray) Land. On March
28, 1953, he married Joanne Sidwell who survives.
Also surviving
are a son, Steve (Loretta) of New Castle; a daughter, Diana (Rex) Spencer,
Celina; two brothers, Dick (Rheta) of New Castle, and Walt Jr. (Nancy)
of Bluffton, S.C.; a sister, Ilene (Dave) Pentecost, New Castle; four grandchildren
and three stepgrandchildren.
A State Farm
Insurance agent for 39 years, he owned and operated Gene Land Insurance
Agency in New Castle. He was a 1950 graduate of New Castle High School
and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was a member
and elder of Chicago Corner Christian Church.
Services are
10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Kim Perdue officiating. Burial

Flaute, 41, 05508 Tri-Township Road, New Bremen, died at 10:25 a.m. Feb.
25, 2003, at the Cleveland Clinic. Death was due to gastric cancer following
a one-year illness.
He was born
April 24, 1961, in St. Marys, to Raymond and Rita Ranly Flaute. They survive
in Cassella. On May 21, 1983, he married Carol Guggenbiller, who survives.
Also surviving
are a son, Kurt, and two daughters, Melinda and Kristine, all at home;
two brothers, William (Jane) of Dayton and Thomas (Pat) of Minster; five
sisters, Ruth (William) Kuhlman, Ottawa, Marjorie (Mike) Millennor, Sharonville,
Teresa (Kenneth) Gerlach and Ann (Mike) Hemmelgarn, St. Henry, and Joan
(Kenneth) Prenger, Chickasaw, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law,
Gene and Freda Guggenbiller, St. Henry.
Two brothers
died in infancy.
He was a 1979
Marion Local High School graduate and a farmer who raised hogs that were
shown across the nation. He owned and operated Mechanical Technology Inc.
since 1988 and Mechanical Installation since 1994.
He was a member
of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, New Bremen, the Catholic Knights of America,
Cassella, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391, Minster. He also was
a 4-H adviser.

He was born
May 24, 1925, in Celina, to Gustave Sr. and Emma Schaadt Klopfleisch.
Surviving
are a son, Scott (Becky) of Allen, Texas; two daughters, Lori (Tim) Thwaits,
Carey, and Karla (Doug) Smith, Celina; a brother, Carl (Odessa) of Celina;
and five granchildren.
Deceased are
a half brother, Henry, and a sister, Elsie Hoenie.
He had worked
as a meat cutter at Producers Creamery & Locker Service and Gerenís
Grocery in Celina. He also was a self-employed meat cutter for many years.
A U.S. Army
veteran, who served during World War II, he was a life member of the
Masonic Lodge, a member of the Eastern Star Alterian Club, a member and
past commander of American Legion Post 210 and a member of St. Johns Lutheran
Church, all of Celina. He also was a member of the State Highway Patrol
Auxiliary.
Services are
11 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Douglas Meyer officiating. Burial
will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.

She was born
Dec. 14, 1909, in Fulda, to Leo and Mary Crum Schehl. On June 28, 1927,
she married Perry Noll who died May 14, 1993.
Surviving
are a son, Paul (Bea) of Redlands, Calif.; a daughter, Phyllis (Bob) Harris,
Ames, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Martha Noll, Coldwater; a brother, Ed Schehl,
Coldwell; a sister, Bernetta Leonard, Canton; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren
and a great-great-grandchild.
Deceased are
a son, James, and four brothers, Clyde, Bill, Lawrence and Bob Schehl.
She was a
homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and St. Annís Rosary

He was born
May 8, 1941, in Martin, Ky., to Martin Vance and Amy Robinson Boyd. His
first wife, the former Edith Mullins, died Dec. 13, 1988. On Feb. 14, 1990,
he married Doris Kay Milligan, who survives.

are two daughters, Tina (Don Jr.) Fickert and Karen (Ron) Curry, Celina;
a stepson, Tim (Laura) Alexander, Celina; three brothers, Clyde of Martin,
Henry of Louisville, Ky., and John of Clearwater, Fla.; five sisters, Diane
and Dot of Vermillion, Gail Crumley, Louisville, Mary Conn, Martin, Ky.
and Frankie Conley, VanLear, Ky.; four grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.

from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, in 1997 after 30 years

He was born
March 31, 1934, in Dayton, to Urban and Marian Moeller Huber. The mother
survives in Coldwater. On Oct. 3, 1954, he married Marlene Bornhorst who
survives.

are three sons, Daniel of Sidney, Mark and Randy (Christine) of McCartyville;
three daughters, Karen (Ron) Brown, Wapakoneta, Chris (Ron) Albers and
Deb (Steve) Heitkamp, McCartyville; four sisters, Sister Cecelia Huber,

Phyllis (Dennis) Stachler, Burkettsville; two sisters-in-law, Joan and

Sipe, 68, 637 E. 1000 N., Portland, Ind., died Feb. 22, 2003, at Lutheran
Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born
March 20, 1934, in Randolph County, Ind., to Wilmer and Grace Grow Girton.
On Feb. 14, 1953, she married Richard E. Sipe who survives.

are a son, Kent of Carmel, Ind.; a daughter, Shelly (Brian) Rippy, Portland;
three brothers, Elvan Girton, Farmland, Ind., Kenny Girton, Winchester,
Ind., and Keith Girton, Portland; two sisters, Marjorie Overmyer, Winchester,
and Janet Collins, Union City, Ind.; and a granddaughter.
A sister,
Alberta Birum, is deceased.
She had worked
at Westinghouse in Union City and was a wedding cake caterer for 20 years.
She was a 1952 graduate of McKinley High School in Randolph County and
a member of Deerfield United Methodist Church.

June 6, 1952, in Charleston, W.Va., to Bobie and Mary Jane Gibson Workman.
The mother survives in Hammond, Ind. On Feb. 14, 1991, he married Renee
Piunti and she survives.

a daughter, Amanda Renee of DeGraff; two brothers, Randall Scott and Michael
of Hammond; and several grandchildren.
He was a retired
piano tuner/technician.

who survives.

Frank (Brenda) Combs, Saskatawan, Canada; four sisters, Brenda (Eddie)
Butturini, Rita (William) Craft and Norma (Lester) Young, all of Celina,
and Madeline G. Grunden, Montezuma; and eight grandchildren.
She initially
worked as a certified nursing assistant at Randolph County Care Center
and then became an admission clerk and union representative there.

Baptist, she was a member of St. Clair County Democrat Club, AFSCME (American
Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) and the Council 31
Executive Board, Springfield, Ill.

Kincaid. On Dec. 12, 1930, she married Ashley M. Dumbauld who died Oct.
21, 1979.

are a son, Bill (Betty) of Xenia; two daughters, Janet (George) Cron, Parma,
and Judy (Larry) Waterman, Delmar, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

of Miami University, Oxford, he was a member of the Hughes Society and
St. Paulís Lutheran Church, Orlando.

John L. Zumberger,
71, 12345 Meranda Road, Anna, died at 6:09 p.m. Feb. 16, 2003, at Wilson
Memorial Hospital, Sidney, following a sudden illness.
He was born
April 9, 1931, in Fort Loramie, to John and Anna (Berning) Zumberger. On
April 16, 1955, he married Eulalia Siefring who survives.
Also surviving
are four sons, Dale (Amy) of Anna, Neil (Barb) of Sidney, Mark (Deb) of
DeGraff, and Henry (Karen) of Botkins; five daughters, Joy (Ken) Clickenger,
Cleveland, Ann (Ron) Steinbrunner, Sidney, Joan (Rob) Nelson, Pawnee, Ill.,
Jan (Jim) Garner, Tecumseh, Mich., and Amy (Mark) Landis, Anna; and 24
grandchildren.
Other survivors
include four brothers, Joe of Portland, Ind., Leonard of Sidney, Albert
(Wilma) of Fort Loramie, and Urban (Marlene) of Versailles; and two sisters,
Irene Beatty, Xenia, and Doris of Sidney.
A brother,
Leo, and a sister, Rose Stockstill, are deceased.
A lifelong
farmer, he retired in 1996 from Stolle Corp., Sidney, where he had worked
as a polisher for 45 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
McCartyville, where he had been a Mass server, lay distributor and a member
of the church council and financial committee. He served in the U.S. Army
during the Korean War.

will follow at the church cemetery.

Kettering; and a sister, Carol E. Smith, Centerville.
She retired
from State Mutual Insurance, Dayton, and formerly worked at New England
Life Insurance and Thompson Supply, Piqua.
She was a
life member of Coldwater American Legion Post 470 and a member of Mercer
County 8 & 40 Salon 828, Southshore Sportsmen club, Lake Improvement
Association, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Women of the Moose Chapter
388 and Celina Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 1291.

is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Montezuma,
the Rev. James Dugal officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at
St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.

Harold Diller
The Rev. Harold
Diller, 94, C.PP.S., one of the oldest members of the Missionaries of the
Precious Blood, died at 7:45 p.m. Feb. 13, 2003, in the infirmary at St.
Charles Center, Carthagena.
He was born
Oct. 6, 1908, in St. Anthony, to John and Mary Gross Diller.
Surviving
are two sisters, Sister Mary Adela Diller, Tiffin, and Ethel Boeckman,
Coldwater; and two sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Diller, Sharpsburg, and Rita
Diller, Coldwater.
Deceased are
four brothers, Zeno, the Rev. Otto, Walter and Donald, and a sister, Adela.
He entered
the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in 1922 and was ordained to the
priesthood May 10, 1934. After working as assistant pastor at Holy Family
Catholic Church in Dayton, he served as assistant procurator at St. Josephís
College in Rensselaer from 1935-1938. He also served as professor of music
and choir director until 1941, when he returned to parish ministry as assistant
pastor at Resurrection Catholic Church in Cincinnati and then as pastor
of Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Hamilton, from 1942-1944.
In 1944, he
went to work with the Catholic Rural Life Conference in Carthagena. He
was assigned as pastor at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Mercer County
in 1945 and also taught rural sociology to seminarians at St. Charles.
In 1950, he was named superior at St. Mary Home, Burkettsville, appointed
provincial secretary in 1953 and re-elected in 1959. He later served as
rector and director of development at Brunnerdale, the societyís high school
seminary in Canton. In 1976, he went to Paducah, Ky., to work with his
brother, the Rev. Otto Diller, at Lourdes Hospital before retiring to St.
Charles Center in 1992. Funeral Mass is 2 p.m. today at St. Charles
Center. Burial will follow in the community cemetery there.

in St. Marys.

In 1998, he
retired as an engineer from New Idea, Coldwater, after 43 years of service.
He then worked part time at Pax Machine, Celina. He was a member of Holy
Trinity Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3025, Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 5135 and Knights of Columbus Council 1991, all of
Coldwater, the Celina Moose Lodge and the Butler Township Zoning Board.

He was a lift
inspector at Crown Equipment, New Bremen, and served as head girls softball
coach in the Marion Local School District the past six years. He coached
girls and boys basketball there for 17 years and was a youth soccer coach
for six years. He also was a softball and baseball umpire.
A 1973 graduate
of Marion Local High School, he served as a board member for Chickasaw
Fire Company and was past president of the Marion Athletic Boosters and
Marion Band Boosters. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Maria
Stein, where he served as an usher and greeter, and the Marion Community
Development Organization.

He was born
March 16, 1955, in St. Marys, to George and June Heap Irish. On May 12,
1984, he married Donna Nussbaum who survives.

are four daughters, Sara (Jeff) Dieringer, St. Marys, and Heather, Amanda
and Ashley, at home; a brother, Stephen of Bristol, Fla.; and his father-in-law
and mother-in-law, John and Dolly Nussbaum, Ottoville.
A 1973 graduate
of St. Marys Memorial High School, he attended Bluffton College. He was
employed 24 years at Minster Machine Co. in the service and repair department
and operated the concession stand at K.C. Geiger Park, St. Marys, for five
years. He also was a St. Marys Girlsí Softball League coach.
He was a member
of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767, St. Marys, and secretary of its
golf league. He also was a member of the St. Marys Sister Cities delegation
that visited Hokudan Cho, Japan, in 2000.

and then in the Army Reserves until 1948.
A retired
farmer, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Spencerville,
where he organized The Methodist Men, served as chairman of various organizations,
a lay leader, chairman of the Official Board, a member of the building
committee and teacher for the Together Sunday School Class. He served as
president of the Spencerville Service Association, as a former Spencer
Township trustee and a member of Spencerville Grange 2424, the Allen County
Farm Bureau and the Black Cat Club, Spencerville.

He was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Cincinnati,
to George H. and Clara Hilbert Schuette. On Oct. 25, 1941, he married Laverne
George who died Nov. 22, 1972. On June 28, 1975, he married Joan Bruns
who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Bill
(Connie) of Versailles and Tom (Pat) of Cleveland; a daughter, Juanita
(Don) Shoemaker, Cleveland; two stepsons, Larry (Dixie) Didier, Fairborn,
and Jerome Didier, Sidney; eight grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
He retired from Carl Subler Trucking,
Versailles, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member
of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Montezuma and a life member of
the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Coldwater. He also
was a member of the Legionís Uniform Group.
Memorial Mass is 11 a.m. Monday
at the church, the Rev. James Dugal officiating. Burial will be at a later
date at St. Louis Cemetery, North Star.

Veceslav Sesek
Veceslav Sesek, 96, 426 Magnolia St., Celina,
died at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30, 2002, at The Gardens at Celina.
He was born Sept. 25, 1906, in Ljubljana,
Austria, to John and Helena Breskvar Sesek. On Dec. 21, 1966, he married Cecelia
Ungruhn who survives.
One brother is deceased.
He immigrated from his native Austria prior
to 1950 and worked as an accountant in Chicago. He was a member of St. Rose
Catholic Church, St. Rose, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina.
