Harold R.
Ashman, 80, a resident of Valley Nursing Home and a former resident of
1015 Williams St., St. Marys, died 11:45 p.m. May 31, 2003, at Joint Township
District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born
Feb. 7, 1923, in Celina, to Harry and Erma Berry Ashman. On Dec. 22, 1945,
he married Dorothy Stone who died Feb. 14, 2000.
Surviving
are a son, Richard (Linda) of St. Marys; two daughters, Patricia (Gerald)
Johns and Diana (Don) Martin, also of St. Marys; a sister, Madella Teeters,
Celina; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased are
three half brothers, Carl, David and George, and three half sisters, Ruby
Swank, Helen Hayden and Margaret Crouch.
He retired
from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, after 42 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Fraternal
Order of Eagles Aerie 767, St. Marys.
Funeral Mass
is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys, the Rev.
David Heinl officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St.

William S.
Baggs, 90, a resident of The Gardens in Celina, died there June 6.
He was born
March 17, 1913, in Portland, Ind., to Otis E. and Alberta B. Powell Baggs.
On May 27, 1943, he married Mary Davis who survives.
Also surviving
are a son, Tom of Florida; three daughters, Peggy Sheaks, St. Marys, Nancy
(Robert) May, Celina, and Susie (Mark) Stoner, Greenville; three grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are
a son, John; a son-in-law, Mike Sheaks; three brothers, Jake, Holloween
and Leonard; and three sisters, Mabel, Berniece and Goldie.
He retired
from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Freuhauf Trailer Co. He also had
worked as a U.S. Border Patrol guard. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World
War II, a graduate of Celina High School and a member of the Fort Recovery
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
Services are
10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Richard VanHorn
officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.

June 8, 2003, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster.
He was born
July 4, 1912, in Carthagena, to Joseph and Catherine Lehmann Bertke. On
Oct. 18, 1941, he married Marcella Frilling who died July 9, 1998.
Surviving
are five sons, Jerry (Jane) of St. Marys, Don (Rosemary) and Dale (Lois)
of Anna, Roger (Susan) and Lavern of Fort Loramie; three daughters, Elfrieda
(Bernard) Sanders, Fort Loramie, Elaine (James) Moorman, Chickasaw, and
Irene (John) Huntzinger, Piqua; a sister, Loretta Link, Montezuma; 24 grandchildren,
21 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Deceased are
two brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren.
He retired
from Avco New Idea, Coldwater, and farming. He was a member of St. Michael
Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Menís Society and the Apostleship of Prayer,
all of Fort Loramie.

He was born
June 25, 1926, in St. Henry, to Fred and Francis Albers Goecke. On July
9, 1949, he married Madonna Hausfeld who survives.

a sister, Dottie Gavit, North Star; 44 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He retired
from Monarch Machine & Tool Co. and was a self-employed salesman. He
served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of St. John
Catholic Church, Maria Stein.

Elmer and Julie Heitkamp, Fort Recovery; maternal grandparents, Robert
and Jane Tobe, Fort Recovery; and a paternal great-grandmother, Esther

She was a

He was born
Feb. 1, 1924, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Anthony and Frances Pleiman Hemmelgarn.
On June 25, 1949, he married Kathleen Link who survives.
Also surviving
are a son, Jeff (Dianne) of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter, Jane Seibert, Celina;
two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Link, Celina, and Evie Link, Colorado Springs,
Colo.; and four grandchildren.
Deceased are
two brothers, Cletus and Richard, and three sisters, Madonna Corbin, Rose
Mary and Margie Hemmelgarn.
He retired
from New Idea in 1982 after 36 years of service as a material planning
manager. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War
II and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Mercer
County Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the American Legion Post,
all of Celina.

She was born
Nov. 18, 1958, in Celina, to Donald and Joyce Schott Shively. They survive
in Celina. On May 23, 1980, she married Sheldon Maxwell who survives.

are a son, Heath, and a daughter, April, both of Portland; and three sisters,
Diane Neargarder, St. Marys, Dawn Jaggers, Nappanee, Ind., and Della Shively,
Celina.

He was born
Aug. 12, 1924, in Coldwater, to Ferd and Cecila Weyer Moorman. His wife,
the former Edna Mays, survives.

are three sons, Gary (Liz) of Tipp City, Mike (Bianca) of Louisville, Ky.,
and Ken of Celina; a stepdaughter, Karen Krieger, Michigan; a brother,
Edgar (Rosemary) of Coldwater; a sister, Alberta (Clarence) Eckstein, Celina;
a brother-in-law, Merle Schlosser, Vinita, Okla.; two sisters-in-law, Lillian
and Pauline Moorman, both of Coldwater; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are
four brothers, Sylvester, Wilfred, Arthur and Anthony; and two sisters,
Dolores Schlosser and Virgene.
A graduate
of Coldwater High School, he retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
She was born
Jan. 29, 1908, in St. Peter, to Anthony and Rose Miller Siegrist. On May
6, 1930, she married Henry Robert Schmidt who died Dec. 20, 1999.
Surviving
are five sons, Charles (Vera) and Ivo (Roseann) of Coldwater, Virgil (Velma)
of Chickasaw, and Paul (Janet) and Urban (Sandy) of Goshen, Ind.; two daughters,
Virginia Walterbusch, Celina, and Eileen (Clem) Eckstein, Greeville; 24
grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Other survivors
include two brothers, Urban Siegrist, Fort Wright, Ky., and Edwin Siegrist,
St. Peter; a sister, Imelda Wilker, St. Marys; and five sisters-in-law,
Mary Catherine and Delores Siegrist, both of St. Peter, Rose and Johanna
Siegrist, both of Fort Wright, and Romania Ranly, St. Marys.
Deceased are
a son-in-law, Elmer Walterbusch; three brothers, Otto, Odilo and Ivo; two
sisters, Barbara Kreutzjans and Celine Homan; and three grandchildren.
She was a
member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a member and past president
of St. Ann Rosary-Altar Sodality, St. Cecilia Knights of St. John and the
Community Hospital Volunteers, all of Coldwater.

Helen Hime,
79, of Celina, died at 3:28 p.m. June 5, 2003, at the Miller House in Celina.
She was born
March 8, 1924, in Penfield, Ill, the daughter of William and Margaret Marron
Dorsey. On June 26, 1945, she married Irvin Hime, who died in April 1975.
Survivors
include three daughters, Linda (Jerry) Piper, of Celina, Deborah (Ron)
Weitzel, of New Weston, and Cheryl Gossetts, of Nevada; a brother Joe Dorsey,
of Penfield, Ill.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded
in death by four brothers, two sisters and a grandson.
A member of
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, she was a retired nurse
from Shane Hill Nursing Home and also retired as a nurse with the Mercer
County Health Department.
Services are
at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Thomas Brenberger officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.

Blair J. Scofield,
80, 5201 Shore Drive, Celina, died on June 5, 2003, at Hospice of Hamilton
at Sunrise, in Hamilton.
He was born
Aug. 3, 1922, in Hamilton, the son of Lyle and Grace Scofield. His wife,
Mary Frances Steenbergen, survives.
Other survivors
include two daughters, Candee (Gordon) Jeffries, Somerville, and Cindy
(Ted) Brown, Lexington, Ky.; a sister, Imogene Goos, Hamilton; four grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded
in death by a sister, Melva Duvall.
He served
in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1946, and worked in the family business
of L.E. Scofield Window and Door and also bar tended at several Hamilton
establishments. He retired to Celinaís lakefront in 1980.
Services are
at 11 a.m. Monday, at Webb Noonan Funeral Home, Hamilton. Visitation is
one hour prior to the service.

home.
He was born
May 21, 1924, in Blackcreek Township, Ind., the son of John B. and Reeta
Dowty Gilbert. On March 5, 1948, he married Jeanne Hower, who survives.

William H. of High Ridge, Mo., and Charles L. of Richmond, Ind.; two daughters,

Ind.; four sisters, Ruth (Dale) Arnold of Uniondale, Ind., Lois Shearer
of Huntington, Ind., and Carol (Jerry) Day and Joyce (Lester) Robert, both
of Bluffton, Ind.; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Deceased is
a sister, Janet Cluster.
A World War
II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, he was a farmer and a member of the
Farmersí Union and St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Uniondale, Ind. He was
also a member of American Legion, post 111.

On March 23, 1935, she married John W. Buzard, who is deceased.

She was preceded

She worked

Hospital, Greenville. Death was due to cancer.
He was born
July 20, 1980, in Greenville, to Frank and Colleen Hiatt Marchal. They
survive in Greenville.
Also surviving
are a brother, Alex C., at home; maternal grandmothers, Phyllis Isenbarger
Hiatt, Versailles, and Patrick Hiatt, Waynesville; and paternal grandmother,
Adele Marchal, Versailles.
A paternal
grandfather, Paul N. Marchal, is deceased.
He was a 1999
graduate of Greenville Senior High School and a junior at Ohio State University.
He received Greenvilleís Character First Award in September 2002 and was
a member of Oakland Church of the Brethren, Greenville, and the Alpha Sigma
Phi Fraternity. He was an honorary member of the Darke County OSU Alumni
Club. During high school, he participated in football, basketball, track,
the Waveaires and the National Honor Society in addition to serving four
years as a class officer.

will be at Oakland Cemetery near Gettysburg at the convenience of the family.

Minster; a daughter, Bonnie Frierott, Greenville; eight grandchildren and
16 great-grandchildren.

Ind., his former wife, survives.

He was a retired
truck driver and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of St. Marys
American Legion Post 323 and helped to organize an annual food drive for
the needy.

22, 1946, she married Dewey Hobson Brooks Jr. who died Oct. 1, 2002.

and Steve (Mary Jo) of Beavercreek; a daughter, Teresa of Alexandria, Va.;

both of Coldwater; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann and Edna Rutschilling,
both of Coldwater; and two grandchildren.

She was a
homemaker and formerly employed as a secretary at Frigidaire, Dayton. She

resident Sandy Jane Clem, 47, 740 Christopher Drive, Marion, died at 11:45
a.m. June 3, 2003, at her home. Her death was due to cancer.
She was born
Sept. 9, 1955, in Portage, Wis., to Ivan James and Betty Carol Zanto McDuffee
who survive in Bloomington, Ill. On Sept. 15, 1979, she married William
H. Clem who also survives.
Other survivors
are a son, William A. of Marion; a daughter, Shannon (John) DeSantis, Marion;
a brother, Scott McDuffee, Bloomington.; and four sisters, Sheryl Monical,
Shelley (Doug) Peden and Susan (Jamie) Phelps, all of Bloomington, and
Sally (Charles) Taylor, Fairbury, Ill.
She was a
retired supervisor of customer relations at the former G.T.E. plant in
Celina, and later Verizon of Marion. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran
Church, and former director of the education committee and member of the

She was born
June 23, 1936, in Chesterfield, Ind., to Perry and Jean I. Grier Brandon.
In October 1970 she married Paul E. Johnson who died June 22, 1993.
Survivors
are three sons, Clinton O. Smith and Daniel G. (Lisa C.) Smith, of Celina,
and Rance of Rockford; a daughter, Kachina of Rockford; two brothers, Jack
Brandon, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Paul (Janet) Brandon, Downyville, Calif.;
and a grandson and three stepgrandchildren.
Deceased is
a twin brother, Michael Brandon; and a sister, Martha Jane Wilson.
She was a
homemaker and formerly worked as a waitress at Motor Inn Truck Stop, Mercer.
She was a member of New Horizons Community Church, Rockford, Order of Eastern
Star, Hagerstown, Ind., and a charter member of Mercer County Saddle Club.

Hilda M. Bruggeman,
91, formerly of Stelzer Road, Maria Stein, died at 12:32 a.m. June 4, 2003,
at Community Hospital, Coldwater. She had been a resident at Briarwood
Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater, for 10 years.
She was born
Aug. 27, 1911, in Wendelin, to Frank and Clara Pokamp Brunswick. On April
11, 1934, she married Raymond B. Bruggeman who died Feb. 9, 1997.
Survivors
are two sons, Melvin (Betty) of McCartyville, and Robert (Carol) of Coldwater;
three daughters, Mary Ellen (Floyd) Niekamp, St. Henry, Clara Jean (Fred)
Hein, Chickasaw, and Lilly Mae Mock, Portland, Ind.; a sister, Laura Franks,
Celina; a daughter-in-law, Cathy of Indiana; 24 grandchildren, 19 stepgrandchildren,
42 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Deceased is
a son, Dennis; a son-in-law, Ray Mock; five brothers; a sister; and two
grandchildren.
She was a
member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Carthagena, and the St. Monica

Griner, 65, 212 Stallo Road, Minster, died suddenly at 8:23 a.m. June 3,
2003, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born
Nov. 23, 1937, in Fort Loramie, to Clarence and Henrietta Kaiser Meyer.
On May 29, 1957, she married Thomas Griner who survives.
Other survivors
are two sons, Terence (Lisa), and Michael, both of Minster; two daughters,
Kathleen M. Mueller and Peggy L. Mueller, both of Minster; a brother, David
(Dorothy) Meyer, Fort Loramie; a sister-in-law, Marcia Schulze, Fort Loramie;

She was a
homemaker and retired bookkeeper and member of St. Augustine Catholic Church,
Minster. She also was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie post
1391, Minster.

of Canton; and eight sisters, also of Canton.
Deceased is
a son, Jason Allen Hodge.
She was employed
at the Canton Regency Retirement Center.

He was born
Dec. 24, 1907, in Auglaize County, to A. F. William and Caroline Henschen
Clausing. On Sept. 14, 1933, he married Lenora Viola Hoelscher who survives.

are two sons, Larry (Judy), of Tiffin and Don A., of Phoenix, Ariz.; a
sister, Zella Schmidt, New Bremen; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Two brothers,

He was a retired
farmer and a member of First United Church of Christ, New Bremen, were
he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon and elder. He also was a
member of the Auglaize County Farm Bureau.

7, 1952, she married Clyde V. Mertz who survives.

Sunbright, Tenn., Christine Johnson and Tamara (Ron) Fullen, both of
Wapakoneta; a brother, Donald E. (Mary) Thitoff, Wapakoneta; a sister,
Kathy (Richard) Goodroe, Snellville, Ga.; seven grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
A sister,

She was a

Hoying, Anna, and Karen (Ralph) Balster, Mesa, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren
and 20 great-grandchildren.

two brothers, four sisters and two grandsons.
He was a retired
farmer and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, McCartyville.
