The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

One person was killed and multiple others were injured in an explosion and fire Thursday at the paint manufacturer's plant in Ohio's capital city, firefighters said. The fire was eventually extinguished and a deceased employee was found in the rubble, identified as 44-year-old Wendell Light, a press room supervisor for the company, which makes paints, resins and other coatings.
