Najia, second left, poses with her family in Kabul, Afghanistan, Friday, Oct. 1, 2021. Soon after the Taliban took control of Kabul, the family sold their households and used the money to unsuccessfully cross into Pakistan. Najia, once a bacha posh, believes there is no place for them under the current regime. Bacha posh means in Dari "dressed up as a boy" and is a regional tradition that allowed parents to dress and raise their daughters as boys with the goal to provide them with a different life.
