The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

A giant alebrije is paraded through the historic center of Mexico City, Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022. Alebrijes are colorful sculptures that combine components of different animals to create a unique fantastical creature. The term was penned by Mexico City folk artist Pedro Linares, who originated the art form in the 1930s based on creatures he dreamt about during a severe illness, which he began creating after his recovery. The Museum of Popular Art organizes the annual alebrije contest and parade. (AP Photo/Eduardo Verdugo)
