The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

Fish auction prices at a port south of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant Friday somehow dipped amid uncertainty about how consumers may respond a day after release to sea of treated and diluted radioactive wastewater began despite protests at home and in neighboring countries.(AP Photo/Eugene Hoshiko)
