The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

Ultra-Orthodox Jews pray in a Sukkah, a temporary structure built for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot next to the concrete separation barrier built by Israel to secure Rachel's Tomb, Judaism's third holiest shrine, in the West Bank town of Bethlehem during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023. The weeklong holiday commemorates the Israelites 40 years of wandering in the desert and a decorated hut is erected outside religious households as a sign of temporary shelter. (AP Photo/Oded Balilty)
