The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

A man poses for a photo wearing a costume during a Muerteada parade in San Agustin Etla, Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023. Mexicans in the Oaxacan town celebrate the traditional Muerteada, a theatrical recreation that is performed through the night of November 1 until the early morning of the following day, with dances and music parading through the streets, while telling the story of how a deceased person is resurrected with the help of a priest, a doctor and a spiritist.
