The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

Suibel Gonzales, left, and her mother Lidia Huayllas, Aymara Indigenous women who make a living as mountain guides, walk on the Huayna Potosi glacier on the outskirts of El Alto, Bolivia, Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023. When they first started climbing the Andes peaks years ago, they could hear the ice crunching under their crampons. These days, it's the sound of melted water running beneath their feet that they mostly listen to as they make their way up. (AP Photo/Juan Karita)
