The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

A battle-scarred home in Kibbutz Be'eri, an Israeli communal farm on the Gaza border, is seen Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024. Hamas held more than a dozen hostages in the home when it overran southern Israel on Oct. 7. At the end of an hours-long battle between the militants and Israeli forces, only two hostages survived, and relatives of the slain hostages now demand to know if their loved ones were killed by friendly fire from an Israeli tank.
