The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

102-year-old Jack Hemmings, back, AFC, flies a Spitfire plane to mark 80th anniversary of the military charity Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), after taking off from London Biggin Hill, England, Monday, Feb. 5, 2024. The former RAF Squadron Leader and pioneer of MAF, the world's largest humanitarian air service, hoped to become the oldest Briton to fly in a spitfire. Hemmings took to the skies in Britain's best-loved Second World War aircraft to raise money for MAF, the charity he co-founded almost 80 years ago. (Gareth Fuller/PA via AP)
