The Daily Standard has published our selection of 'World Pictures' for almost ten years. It started as a result of seeing so many pictures on the Associated Press wire service that illustrate breaking news, current events, natural wonders, foreign cultures and the human condition. But most of these images could never have fit in our print edition. As of a week ago, The Daily Standard switched to a tier of service from the AP more appropriate for a newspaper of our size. Unfortunately this tier does not have carte blanche access to AP pictures, and we will be retiring our 'World Pictures' feature. Thank you for learning about our world with us through 'World Picts'.

Ultra-Orthodox Jewish men hold a sign in Hebrew that reads "To jail and not to army" during a protest against army recruitment in Jerusalem on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Ultra-Orthodox men have long received exemptions from military service, which is compulsory for most Jewish men, generating widespread resentment. The Supreme Court has ordered the government to present a new proposal to force more religious men to enlist. (AP Photo/Ohad Zwigenberg)
