Natural beauty

A monarch butterfly sticks to the wrist of Michael Schindler as another first-grade student, Ashley Robinson, moves in closer. Robinson had a special interest in the insect: she recently brought it to class at Immaculate Conception Elementary School while it was in the chrysalis stage so children could watch it change into a butterfly. Several classrooms and grades at the school are participating in the "butterfly experiment," monitoring the specimens daily as they progress through the metamorphosis stages. The students will gradually release all the butterflies as they are ready to fly, said the teachers, who are using the experience as a teaching tool for science.
