Nellie Franklin
Nellie I. Franklin, 91, of Fort Recovery, died at 3:30 a.m. April 22, 2007, at The Gardens at St. Henry.
She was born Jan. 15, 1916, in Fort Recovery, to Walter and Grace Hildbold Roop. On Dec. 25, 1941, she married Derrell Franklin, who died Sept. 11, 2006.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, John Roop, and a sister, Zemmabelle Johns.
She was the mayor of Fort Recovery for 19 years, owned and operated Nell's Beauty Shoppe, Fort Recovery, for 40 years, served as director of the Mercer County Board of Elections for 14 years, was a 1934 graduate of Fort Recovery High School and attended the School of Cosmeteology, Dayton. She was a member of Fort Recovery United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 345 and Fort Recovery Historical Society, all of Fort Recovery. She also was on the board of directors of the Fort Recovery Foundation, a past worthy matron and grand representative of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 111 and a past president of the Mercer County Republican Women.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Robert Dungan officiating. Burial is at Springhill Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
Calling 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Services will be preformed by Order of the Eastern Star at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
