Alvira Huwer
Alvira M. Huwer, 94, of state Route 118, Celina, died at 6:20 p.m. May 20, 2007, at the Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
She was born May 2, 1913, in Carthagena, to Bernard and Helena Beckstedt Hartke. On April 15, 1939, she married Lester Huwer, who died Sept. 24, 1998.
Surviving are a son, John (Cathy), Dover, Del.; four daughters, Patricia (John) Pfister, Fort Wayne, Ind., Nancy (Steve) Ertel, Muncie, Ind., Jane (Shawn) Miesse, Celina, and Barbara (Rick) Flowers, Naples, Fla.; a son-in-law, Edward McGillvary, Celina; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Ralph; a daughter, Judy McGillvary; four brothers, Alvin, Norbert, Sylvester and Richard Hartke; and two sisters, Julite Folino and Bertha Beals.
She cleaned houses in the Celina area, was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, and its Altar Rosary Sodality and Sewing Circle.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial is at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina.
