Pumped up for savings

Motorists wait patiently for their turn to purchase gasoline at a 93 cent per gallon discount during a special promotion Wednesday afternoon at Shell Party Mart on Main Street in Celina. Radio station Wild 93.9 of Lima, responsible for the chaos that ensued, frequently sponsors the advertising gimmick at Ottawa Oil-owned stations in the area. The price of regular gasoline dropped to $2.43 per gallon for 93 minutes from 1:20 p.m. to 2:53 p.m. Dozens of vehicles were lined up in three directions, causing traffic problems for Celina Police. Gas station Manager Lisa Green said about 1,600 gallons of gas were dispensed at the discount price. A motorist filling an empty 16-gallon tank saved approximately $15.
