Rockford house fire

Fire trucks from Chattanooga and Rockford sit parked near the home of Van Cross, west of Rockford, as firefighters battle an attic blaze apparently started by a lightning strike. A truck driver reportedly spotted smoke coming from the house at 1119 state Route 707. Thirty firefighters and four trucks responded to the 7:54 a.m. emergency call. They ventilated the roof and entered the attic through an upstairs bedroom to access flames. Chattanooga Fire Chief Doug Brehm estimated damage at $25,000 to $30,000 and said catching the fire early prevented a total loss. The owners, who reportedly have insurance, were not home at the time.
