Celina boys golfers knock off Wapak

The Celina boys golf team picked up its first Western Buckeye League win of the season, beating Wapakoneta, 166-169, at the Wapakoneta Country Club on Thursday. Celina improves to 1-1 in league dual matches.
Paul VanDeventer paced Celina with an even round of 36 to earn medalist honors. Jared Bader finished with a 42 with Darin Waterman carding a 43. Scott Fleck shot a 45 with Jeremy Kerr and Dylan Correll finishing with 46 and 47, respectively.
Wapak golfers Kyle Maus and Tyler Sosby paced the Redskins with matching 40s.
In junior varsity play, Celina lost to Wapak 179-198. Tyler Menchhofer paced the Bulldogs with a 46.
Celina hosts St. Marys on Monday in a key WBL contest at The Fox's Den.
Roughriders open WBL with win
St. Marys opened WBL play with a dominating 148-212 win over Bath at Northmoor.
Five Roughriders shot 40 or less on the back nine of Northmoor. WBL Player of the Year contender Michael Schmitmeyer paced the squad with an even-par 35. Kevin Falasco shot a 37 with Zach Martin and Eric Anderson carding matching 38s. Adam Kuffner added a 40.
Wil Burden paced the Wildcats with a 49.
Minster wins two
The Minster boys golf team won a quadrangular on Wednesday and then opened MAC play with a victory on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Minster shot 152 at Arrowhead Golf Club to outdistance New Bremen (158), Anna (174) and Fort Loramie for a victory.
Ben Hogenkamp shot 36 as the medalist for Minster while teammates Craig Purpus and Matt Brackman also broke 40 with rounds of 37 and 39, respectively.
Alex Bergman and Brock Bergman led New Bremen with 39s.
On Thursday, Minster shot 155 to knock off Fort Recovery (191) in a dual match.
Hogenkamp again was the medalist with a round of 38 while Brackman, John Eiting and Adam Sherman each shot 39s.  
GIRLS GOLF
Panthers win MAC opener
Parkway defeated Marion Local 220-260 at The Mercer County Elks in Midwest Athletic Conference dual match action.
Emily Winings paced the Panthers with a medalist round of 47. Alyssa Evans finished with a 56 with Chelsie O'Neill carding a 58 and Brittany Strawn a 59.
Lauren Subler's 60 was low round for the Flyers. Stephanie Heitkamp and Samantha Leugers each shot a 65 with Nicole Goettemoeller finishing with a 70.
Parkway is at Celina on Monday. Marion hosts Fort Loramie and Ansonia at The Elks on Monday.
Redskins fall to Wave
Matching 44s by sisters Ashlee and Alexa Hetzler allowed Greenville to post a 182-210 win over St. Henry at The Elks on Thursday. The Redskins drop to 1-2 in dual matches.
Shelly Post paced the Redskins with a 47. Mara Rindler carded a 53 with Ashley Kunkler and Taylor Rindler firing a 55 each.
Cavs win trimatch
Coldwater hosted New Bremen and Wayne Trace at Northmoor on Thursday, winning the event with a round of 213. Wayne Trace carded a 229 with New Bremen not scoring as a team with just three golfers playing.
Jessica Welsch carded a 50 to pace the Cavaliers while Ashley Evers added a 51.
New Bremen's Jackie Scheer earned medalist honors on the day, shooting a 49.
