Captain Jody Lange, administrator at the Mercer County Jail, explains the workings of the new Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) purchased with a $38,000 grant administered through the office of Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann. The fingerprints are transmitted electronically to such agencies as the Bureau of Criminal Investigation & Identification and the FBI.
