Sister Julia Knapke
Former Cranberry Prairie resident Sister Julia Knapke, 93, died at 12:05 a.m. Dec. 2, 2007, at Catherine Kasper Home, Donaldson, Ind.
She was born Jan. 7, 1914, in Cranberry Prairie, to William and Rose Hemmelgarn Knapke.
Survivors are a brother, William (Esther), Cranberry Prairie; a sister, Lucille Hess, Dayton; and two sisters-in-law, Eileen Knapke, St. Henry, and Norma Knapke, Cranberry Prairie.
Deceased are four brothers, Claude, Bernard, Mark and Robert; and four sisters, Paula, Hilda, Rita and Roselynn.
She entered the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ Community, Donaldson, on June 26, 1937, and took her vows on June 25, 1939. She served as a teacher and school principal from 1941 to 1982. In 1984, she became involved in pastoral ministry and worked at diocesan marriage tribunal offices in Bellville, Ill., and Fort Wayne, Ind., before retiring in 1993.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Catherine Kasper Home. Burial is at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Donaldson.
Calling is 4:30-9 p.m. Tuesday at Catherine Kasper Home, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
