Lyman Gunyou
Lyman J. Gunyou, 84, 617 Kingswood Drive, Celina, died at 10:40 a.m. Dec. 10, 2007, at his home.
He was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to George and Agnes Slocum Gunyou. On March 15, 1947, he married Shirley Knight, who survives.
Other survivors are a son, John (Kimberly), Minnetonka, Minn.; a daughter, Susan (Daniel) Rains, Indianapolis, Ind.; four grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
Deceased are a brother and his wife, E. Brandon and Betty Gunyou; and two sisters and their husbands, Nadine and Chester Wahl and Georgetta and Robert Kreglow.
He retired as an engineer at the former New Idea plant in Coldwater. A 1940 Monroe High School graduate and a graduate of Ohio State University, Columbus, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served as a fighter pilot for the Army Air Corps in the Western Pacific. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Celina, and chaired the building committee of the current facility. He also was a member of Celina Masonic Lodge 241 of the Free & Accepted Masons, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713, Celina, and the Ohio Society of Mechanical Engineers. He also was a past master of Boy Scout Troop 114.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. David Dennis officiating. Private family burial with military honors conducted by the VFW is at North Grove Cemetery on Saturday morning.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina, and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. The VFW will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
