Summer concerts back at Lake Shore Park

The Summer Concert Series in Celina had a disappointing opening last Sunday evening as the steel drum group Pantasia was relocated from Lake Shore Park to the Celina High School lecture room.
The decision to relocate the event was made early Sunday evening because newly planted grass around the recently constructed walkways had not come up yet, city Planning and Community Development Director Kent Bryan said.
Though it did not rain on Sunday evening, Bryan said there was concern about people trampling the wet, fledgling grass. The decision to relocate was made by one of the concert committee members.
But the concert committee intends to hold this Sunday's concert featuring the big band AC Swing back at Lake Shore Park.
"That's a decision that gets made every Sunday evening," Bryan said concerning the concert location.
Normally, a banner is placed at the park to notify the public about a change in venues to the Celina Fieldhouse. Because this time the concert was relocated to the Celina High School lecture room - due to the Fieldhouse being in use - the banner was not put up.
Bryan said concert committee members were at all three locations on Sunday to notify the public where to go. Bryan said the grass should be fully grown in two to four weeks.
If, for any reason, this Sunday's event in the park needs to be moved, it will be relocated to the high school lecture room. After this week, all other summer concerts that need to be moved due to weather will be held in the Fieldhouse.
Various Celina civic organizations recently constructed 1,200 linear feet of sidewalks at the park. In addition to aesthetic and convenience improvements, the walkways provide handicap and wheelchair access.
Despite last week's concert relocation, Pantasia attracted more than 400 listeners with standing room only at the lecture hall, according to reports to the newspaper.
