Gertrude Palmer
Gertrude Palmer, 92 died at 7:15 p.m. Oct. 25, 2008, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Living Community.
She was born Oct. 23, 1916, in Defiance, to Albert G. and Mary Gertrude Jennings Caris. On Feb. 9, 1942, she married Emerson E. Palmer, who died Nov. 15, 1958.
Surviving are four daughters, Sue (William) Hitselberger, Pasadena, Calif., Sara (David) Schafer, Rochester, N.Y., Anne Newcomb (Jeffrey) Heckman, Minster, and Leslie (John) Graef, Akron; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She worked as a teacher and counselor at Fairborn City Schools. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Fairborn, a charter member of the American Association of University Women, Fairborn, and was active in the Fairborn Senior Citizen Center genealogy group. She graduated from the Ohio State University in 1941, and received her master's degree in counseling from the University of Dayton in 1969.
Memorial services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Otterbein St. Marys.
Calling is 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
