Baptismal gown will soon be worn by 177th baby

ST. HENRY - Winter was setting in when Helena Wuebker of Carthagena put the finishing touch on a pristine christening gown for her infant niece, Marie Lange.
It was 1917, the start of World War I, and most children's clothing was handsewn and made to last. The delicate and lacy baptismal dress was no exception, although Wuebker likely would be shocked to learn her gift is still bringing children to the baptismal font. [More]

An area English teacher has turned her love of basketball into an intriguing look at some local boys coaches who have reached the pinnacle of success.
Amy Zorn, who formerly taught at Jackson Center and now toils at Anna, is the author of the recently published Prepared to Win. The 293-page hardcover book focuses on 14 head basketball coaches from Shelby, Auglaize, and Mercer counties that have taken their teams to the state tournament over the past 31 years. [More]

NEW BREMEN - The New Bremen board of education took the first step Wednesday night toward placing a 1 percent income tax renewal on the May ballot.
Funds are for science, technology, engineering, and math programs
FORT RECOVERY - St. Henry, New Bremen and Fort Recovery schools have been awarded a renewal, collective grant of $262,263 from the state's Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Coalition.
ST. MARYS - Work on the new 6-12 city schools building property is progressing with three wells of the geothermal system dug and ready for piping.
The geothermal wells are expected to be completed in July, which is about two months ahead of the final completion cutoff.
