Platt DeCamp
Former Mercer County resident, Platt O. DeCamp, 86, died at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 2, 2009, at Alfredo Gonzales Veteran's Home, McAllen, Texas.
He was born June 24, 1922, to Job and Carrie Platt De Camp. On June 21, 1942, he married Eileen B. Kearns, who died May 6, 1999.
Surviving are three daughters, Karen (Dave) Frenzer, Celina, Teresa (Brian) Dutremaine, McAllen, Texas, Doyle (Steve) Ross, Celina; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Deceased are two grandchildren.
He was a farmer and traveled throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico in evangelistic ministry. He was a veteran of World War II and recipient of four bronze stars. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
A local memorial service is planned for July. Burial will be at Greenville Union Cemetery, His peers at Alfredo Gonzales Veterans Home honored him with "The Final Salute." as he left his residence of 21/2 years.
