Robert Engel
Former St. Marys resident Robert Lee "Rolo" Engel, 86, died at 11:55 a.m. March 28, 2009, at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, Fla., from complications of pulmonary embolisms and pneumonia.
He was born June 9, 1922, to Frank and Elsie Fickle Engel in St. Marys, where he resided until 1985.
Survivors are his wife, Geraldine "Jeri" Engel of Fort Myers; a son, Richard (Kathy) Engel, Northfield, N.H.; and daughters, Margaret "Peggie" Ann Engel, Fort Myers, and Leslie (Steve) Hullinger, St. Marys; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are six siblings and a daughter.
He worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 37 years. He joined the Army in 1940. He was a professional ventriloquist, magician and clown, belonging to The Society of Magicians and Clowns. He also was a VFW clown, Mason and a Shriner. He was a member of The United Church of Christ in St. Marys and The Fort Myers Congregational UCC in Florida.
He will be cremated with private family services held.
