Sheriff's office seeking info on old tombstones

The Mercer County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the discovery of three old tombstones in a Bayview Drive yard.
A deputy responded to 107 Bayview Drive on March 30 after Melinda Leiss and her husband made the unusual discovery at the house they recently purchased.
No one is sure where the white tombstones dating back to the 1870s came from or how long they had been in the yard.
Inscriptions revealed they were erected for Mary, the daughter of J. & M. Hoverman who died April 27, 1872, at the age of 4 years and 5 months; James A., the son of W. and A.C. States who died Sept. 28, 1871, at the age of 2 months and 26 days; and Caroline, the daughter of J. and C. Klingel, who died Oct. 10, 1878, at the age of 7 years and 4 days.
Anyone having information regarding the origin of the tombstones is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 419-586-7724.
The Celina Police Department solved a similar case last year when several tombstones were located in a ditch along a local road. Information obtained from callers resulted in the items being linked to distant relatives in the Ohio City area.
