Michael Kahlig was among more than 300 participants lining a pond at Grand Lake on Wednesday morning to catch a fish during the nonprofit Lake Improvement Association's special kids fishing derby. The annual event, staged by the LIA and Grand Lake St. Marys State Park staff, was held along the West Bank. It is for physically and mentally challenged children and adults from Mercer and Auglaize counties. Volunteers help bait hooks, take off fish and prepare a free lunch.
