Carol Ann Dennis of Celina, left, and Megan Arling of Coldwater prepare a tray of crackers for the Ohio State University spring buffet on Thursday at the Central Services Building in Celina. The event was planned and prepared by youths who volunteer or are court-ordered into the Mercer County Juvenile Court's life skills class. The classes, which meet every other week for six weeks, are led by Barbara Hennard, the local OSU Extension educator and family and consumer sciences agent, and juvenile court Probation Officer Judy Hiday. The sessions began in October and teach students such topics as food preparation and nutrition. The classes are funded by a Department of Youth Services Reclaim Ohio Grant. The county commissioners on Thursday agreed to re-apply for the funding, which brought in more than $74,000 this year.
